For a lot of us, our bedrooms are our sanctuaries. They should be a place that feels luxurious - a space we can feel cozy, and rest easily, in. I know it’s one of things I’ve personally been striving for in our new desert home, Lekker House JT. So how do make a bedroom feel luxurious? Honestly, I think that there are photo styling tips that go a long way in real life application to making a bedroom bedroom feel luxe.
1. Keep It Minimal
No doubt when it comes to photoshoot, less it more. And when it comes to your real life bedroom, whether you’re designing or re-designing a bedroom in your own home, guest house, or Airbnb, this a golden rule as well. Too many things can literally make us feel weighed down and anxious - the exact opposite vibe we try to cultivate in the bedroom. It’s for that reason, I chose white walls and limited furnishings to create a calm, clean, minimal feeling in our bedrooms.
2. Choose The Right Bedding
We spend one third of our lives sleeping, so why choose bedding that’s anything other than dreamy? For me, that meant Ettitude’s 100% organic bamboo sheets and duvet covers. Not only does bamboo make for a more sustainably-minded textile than cotton, but Ettitude’s bedding is so smooth, it’s like getting into a five-star resort bed every night. They look just as delicious as they feel, which goes a long way to making any bedroom space feel luxe.
One of the other things I really love about these sheets is how eco-friendly they are. Bamboo requires less water than cotton to grow. Being in a desert, we’re incredibly conscious of precious natural resources.
3. Make It Functional
Design your room so that it’s at your beck and call, it will help keep your mind at ease. Do you love to read before bed? A bedside table and lamp are essential. Are you a heavy sleeper who needs the morning sun to wake you up,? Position the bed in front of the window. There’s nothing better than a room that works for you (not to mention a room with a function tells a clear story). There’s oe function though you’re better off leaving out of the bedroom - a home office. Find another corner of the house, other than in the bedroom, to create a workspace. A home office in the bedroom equals thinking about work when trying to doze off, and that’s a recipe for a sleepless night.
