With the holidays now just right around the corner, gift giving is on the brain. When it comes to client gifts, in particular, I know I have often hard-pressed to come up with something better than a bottle of liquor. And while a lovely bottle of wine, or a classic scotch can make a nice gift, I find myself wanting to give something more personal, more dynamic (I mean there has to be an alternative to Harry and David's dried apricots, amirite?) Enter LA-based startup BOXFOX.
BOXFOX is, as Tech Crunch notes, "enhancing strategy and technology to make one of life’s favorite moments, gift giving, easier and more customizable than ever before." Choose from boxes curated for nearly every occasion (collections include: housewarming, new mom, up in the air) or create your own. Should you opt to create your own, BOXFOX's algorithm will even help you figure out which items will fit perfectly in the specific size box you've selected.
Earlier this week I attended BOXFOX's pop-up at the newly re-designed Westfield Century City mall to create my own gift box. The pop-up, an intimate, all-glass space in the middle of the mall's thoroughfare, had been perfectly merchandised with gifts from brands like Voluspa, Dry Bar, Band.do, Compartes and Mast, and Sonix by the company's founders: Chelsea Moore, Sabena Suri and Jenni Olivero. With so many eye-catching items with which to build a box, my first thought was - where do I begin? Thankfully, founder Moore was there to walk me through how to best curate a BOXFOX.
The box I made was a mix at-home home essentials and on-the-go must haves. There was a bourbon vanilla Voluspa candle, some delish toffee from B. Toffee to satiate those midnight chocolate cravings, a bottle of Herbivore Botanicals Rose Hydrating Face Mist, and an Carry-On Old Fashioned cocktail kit.
